The North Coast off KwaZulu Natal is also known
as the Dolphin Coast and stretches from Zimbali Estate to the
Thukela River. The area is steeped in history and tradition yet
also plays host to a large number of tourists and visitors from
within SA wishing to sit back, relax and indulge their senses.
This is the playground of the bottlenose dolphins
which frolic in the waters close to shore and are visible all
year round. The North Coast offers luxury, beauty, sport and history.
Ballito, the self proclaimed playground capital
of the North Coast, offers good restaurants, partying in nightclubs,
food markets, galleries, outdoor activities, festivals, 2 top
class golf courses, microlighting, fishing, horse-riding as well
as beachfront resort hotels and seaside camp sites. Shopping can
be enjoyed at one of 3 exciting centres with a 4th well on its
way, or at the Litchi Orchard market in Salt Rock.
The great King Shaka Zulu is buried at Kwa-Dukuza
and Nobel Laureate, Albert Luthuli lies buried nearby. Visit the
Albert Luthuli Museum in Stanger or the historic battle sites
such as the Ultimatum Tree, Ndondakusuka or Fort Pearson. Zulu
hospitality is warm and the people are friendly. They are proud
to show you their heritage.
The North Coast is also home to a large Indian
community. Look out for their temples, sample their spicy foodstuffs
or shop for fresh produce at any of the numerous markets.
