Welcome to the first edition of the KZN Battlefields Route e-News!

We will be publishing a bi-monthly e-newsletter to keep our readers informed about news and events on the Route.

Website Launch:

The new KwaZulu Natal Battlefields Route Website www.battlefields-route.co.za was launched in March 2010 and aims to be the ultimate tourism platform for anyone wishing to source any information on visiting this historically rich area. Our website is centered around a map of the route, with information on the various wars and battles in the region, historical sites where these wars and battles were fought, the towns which have subsequently been built up since then.

The site also aims to contain vital tourist information such as accommodation, dining establishments, travel agencies, car rental companies, things to do in the area as well as commemorative events and other happenings.

Welcome New Members:

News:

Talana Museum has opened its Zulu Cultural Village 'Kwakunje' - meaning 'it was like this'. Visitors can enjoy a customised tour whilst presentations and traditional food can be arranged by prior booking and structured to suit individual needs. Miranda Coal is the proud supporter of Kwakunje and further details can be obtained by contacting Talana Museum.

Battle and Birding Weekend
Date: 18th and 19th June 2010 - taking place at Ghost Mountain Inn. Historian Ken Gillings will recount the events around the Zulu Civil War. Join them on Friday the 18th of June 2010 at 18h00 for a riveting fireside talk on the great Battle of Tshaneni. On Saturday spend the day reliving the battle on the mountain. Enjoy a light lunch followed by a relaxing afternoon of Birding in the Mkhuze Game Reserve.
